What do I do to become a Lifeguard?

your Surf Lifeguard Award exam. The exam comprises:
- 400m pool swim in under 9 minutes
- Run/swim/run in the surf
- Resuscitation Test
- Rescue Test
- Theory questions
- Practical surf knowledge test
Does my Surf Lifeguard Award expire?
Each season active Surf Lifeguards must perform a Refresher test.
This includes a swim, resuscitation test and first aid questions.
It is not designed to fail people but to ensure their fitness and
knowledge is up to the required standard.
What does my Club membership fee cover?
Your membership fee helps to run your Club. Generally fees contribute
to you gaining further awards, social activities and all the equipment
that you are entitled to use as a Club member. As a member of your
Club you are also a member of your District and SLSNZ. As a member
of SLSNZ you enjoy personal accident and public liability insurance
cover. Unlike most national sports bodies there is no membership levy
payable by members of Clubs to the national body.
Why do I fill out a membership form?
Being a member of the organisation provides you with a range of benefits,
which are only available to members. SLSNZ is proactive at protecting
its membership and all activities such as JuniorSurf, Lifeguard Patrols
and SurfSports events have policies to reduce risks to a member participating.
It also ensures that we have up to date contact details.
Can my whole family become involved in surf
lifesaving?
Yes - SLSNR is full off opportunities for all ages from 7 years. As
well as Lifeguard patrols parents can become involved in a number
of areas including training, coaching officiating at SurfSports events,
examining, team and Club management roles.
Membership Forms are available from SLSNR
or your local surf lifesaving club.
